English version below.

==================================
A little update about EU shipping
We run MONOMOTTE with a lot of passion – and with a pretty small operation behind the scenes. That’s exactly why we’re once again realizing how quickly new regulations can become a lot to handle for small independent retailers. From August 12, 2026, the EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will apply. The idea behind it absolutely makes sense: less packaging waste, better recyclability and more consistent rules across Europe.
In practice, however, it also means additional registrations and reporting requirements across different systems – and depending on the country, even the need for local representatives and additional ongoing costs. For large retailers, this may be manageable. For a small shop like ours, sending only a handful of orders to some EU countries each year, there comes a point where the amount of bureaucracy simply no longer makes sense.
That’s why we’ve decided to temporarily pause shipping to other EU countries from August 12, 2026. You can, of course, still place orders from within the EU up to and including August 11.
This wasn’t an easy decision for us. We’ve genuinely appreciated every single order from Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and all the other countries we’ve shipped to over the years. MONOMOTTE isn’t a huge anonymous online store – it’s a small project run by the two of us, and every order really does mean something to us.
We’ve already spent hours calculating and paying fees for packaging materials from previous years. We even have to estimate things such as the plastic wrapping around FIELD NOTES notebooks, declare it as packaging waste when importing the products and, of course, pay the corresponding fees. At some point, we simply had to draw the line: we currently can’t justify this amount of bureaucracy for just a few individual parcels a year. The good news is that things are still moving. Some of the rules are still being discussed at EU level and may hopefully become simpler and more practical for small businesses. So we really hope this is not a permanent goodbye to EU shipping.
We’ll continue to follow the developments closely, and as soon as there’s a reasonable, affordable and practical solution, we’ll happily start reopening individual countries. For the time being, we’ll be focusing on shipping within Germany. Thank you so much for your understanding – and an especially big thank you to everyone who has ordered from MONOMOTTE from elsewhere in Europe over the past few years. ❤️
